If you love homemade pie, but, find piecrust daunting, this course is sure to cure your pastry woes. You’ll learn to master two simple doughs: a versatile flaky pastry dough and a sweet tart dough that’s ideal for tarts. We’ll make a seasonal fruit pie with an impressive lattice topping (it’s easier than you think) and an open-face apple tart to enjoy year-round. You’ll also learn to make pie’s favourite companion, handcrafted ice cream.  As if you needed another excuse to join us.  


  • Open-face apple custard tart, made with a sweet tart dough
  • Rhubarb and Ginger Lattice Pie, made with a flaky pastry dough
  • Pure Vanilla Ice Cream 

Hands-on and Demonstration

*Please note: you may want to eat a snack before class - we will indulge in only pie for dinner tonight!

In this class, we will use the Donvier Ice Cream Maker.

Chef Calvin Pipping

Calvin Pipping was born, and spent most of his childhood in Singapore before immigrating to Vancouver and calling this his home for the last 20 years. He is a graduate of the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts and has worked his way up to sous chef under notable Vancouver Chef Alex Tung.
