(L to R: Chef Ned Bell, Helen Stortini of Growing Chefs, Liam Lewis, The Little Locavore and Shawna.Jacques of Whole Foods)
What a blast! Chef Ned Bell invited us along to a very special event at Whole Foods on Cambie Street a few weeks ago and it was so well done. Whole Foods has launched a new series of dinners called "Get Local" and they made it happen in a big way.
Liam Lewis, The Little Locavore, was invited by Whole Foods to showcase his favorite local bounty and Chef Ned volunteered to help him get all that food onto plates. The entire menu was developed by this young chef in training and he nailed it. (See the menu in our previous blog).
100% of the proceeds of the sold out event went to Growing Chefs, which just so happens to be an organization close to our heart. These fine people deliver food education programs to elementary students in schools in less affluent areas of Vancouver and Victoria. They are teaching the next generation the importance of growing their own food and how to make it it from scratch. It's an amazing organization which through our website and blog you will be hearing much more about in the coming months.
A special thanks to J.A. Henckels Zwilling Canada (Staub Cookware, Miyabi Knives, Zwiiling Knives and Cookware) for their ongoing support of our work in the community. Without them we would not be able to make the same impact at these awesome events. A true partner in the food movement in our country.
